I have heard several times people say they don’t even want to try to forgive because they fear that makes them accept the evil action. It is important to separate here. To accept reality is one thing, to love stupidity is another. What is positive about our stupidity and evil actions is that we can learn from it if we want to, but it is impossible to love a lack of something like knowledge and empathy, to love nothingness. If you understand with empathy you get over it, get perspective. You will still have your moral afterwards, but your understanding have been greater.
Evil actions, and even evil motives, does not make the whole person evil. Evil can not reach as deep as where the reason underneath the motive lies. The reason is the hardest to figure out, if not impossible. You don't want to have empathy with a person you find evil, but that is the only way to understand and get over the issue you are staring yourself blind at, and that connects you to that person.
What I have seen using this method is that the other person has a tunnel vision and a consciousness level so low I can not expect any better from them. I have also seen no thought of the consequenses from a man I had started to believe was trying to break me on purpose.
To respect that they have a free will and have to take responsibility (karma) for their own stupid actions is another factor to have in mind. It also helps to look at my own shortcomings. We are not very different. We are all human beings, with fear and lack of understanding.
Jesus' quote: "forgive them because they don't know what they are doing" is a magical one. If you say you want God to forgive it sounds like you have done it already. Try it. You may find you feel like you have forgiven. It happens indirectly through God.
